zubly...The Rev. John J. Zubly was the first pastor of what is today the Independent Presbyterian Church in Savannah, Georgia. In July, 1775, Zubly was elected by the Georgia Provincial Congress to be one of Georgia's representatives at the Second Continental Congress. By mid- November, 1775, Zubly was gone from the Continental Congress, having been branded a traitor. When he arrived back in Savannah he was jailed, his property was confiscated, and he was eventually banished from the colony. What happened? How and why, in three short months, did Zubly travel from a supporter of the colonialist cause to a traitor to that cause?
